Clean Water for Kebena Wereda

Kebena Wereda Water.

Description

We are proud to announce the successful construction of a new water well in Kebena Wereda. This vital project marks a significant step toward ensuring access to safe and clean drinking water for the local community. Why It Matters Before the well was built, families in Kebena Wereda relied on distant and unsafe water sources, often walking several kilometers daily. This placed a heavy burden on women and children and exposed households to serious health risks from contaminated water. Now, with the new well: Over 200 households have direct access to clean water. Women and children no longer need to travel long distances to fetch water. The risk of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea and typhoid has been greatly reduced. Communities have more time for education, farming, and income-generating activities. Community Involvement The project was built with the active participation of the local community. A Water Committee has been established to oversee maintenance, ensuring the well remains functional for many years to come. Community members have also been trained in proper sanitation and hygiene practices to maximize the health benefits of clean water. Looking Ahead This water well is more than just a source of drinking water — it is a foundation for better health, improved education, and sustainable development in Kebena Wereda. With continued community commitment and support, it will serve as a lasting solution to water scarcity in the area.
